World Sight Day and Flight for Sight 2008
9 October 2008
World Sight Day is a global annual initiative to highlight the plight of visually impaired people all over the world.
This World Sight Day, 9 October 2008, Action for Blind People will be raising awareness of those recently diagnosed with sight loss, many of whom currently wait up to a year for any advice or practical support.
Our EyePoD service can bridge this gap at the point of diagnosis by providing essential support and advice at Hospital Eye Clinics. EyePoD is a model that works and could revolutionise the way in which visually impaired people are able to overcome the challenges they face.
Action will be raising awareness about sight loss this World Sight Day, through the following activities:
- Flight for Sight 2008
We will be holding a high profile event 'Flight for Sight' generously hosted by the London Eye. Guests to Flight for Sight, including new and existing partners and funders, will be able to learn about EyePoD, and our plans for its future expansion.
In the evening The London Eye will be lit up in our corporate colour - fuchsia - so be sure to look out for us if you happen to be within a few miles of central London!
- Mobile Sight Loss Information Service
One of our Mobile Sight Loss Information units will be based in the area just next to the London Eye all day. The general public and guests to our event will be able to try out gadgets for themselves and our team will be on hand to offer free impartial advice on sight loss.
- Awareness raising and fundraising
We will be raising awareness and fundraising at six key mainline London railway stations throughout the day. If you happen to be in London on 9 October, do look out for us!
