Welfare Rights Service

Action for Blind People's Welfare Rights Service aims to guide visually impaired people and their advisers through the benefits maze, to ensure that they receive everything to which they are entitled. During 2007/2008 our Welfare Rights team helped people get over one million pounds of benefit. By maximising income we are reducing poverty and social exclusion.

"We deal with over 2,500 benefit enquiries every year, and many blind and partially sighted people are not receiving the correct benefit entitlement"
Marsha De Cordova, Welfare Rights Manager

In addition, our Welfare Rights Officers run training courses for local associations and charities around the UK. These courses are becoming more and more popular, and this year 99 advisors received training through over 12 courses. Action for Blind People is keen to deliver this training in as many areas across the UK as possible. Partnership is essential if we want to reach out to more people and make a difference.
